So as expected after the dramatic temp drops, AF arrived without much fan fair on Tuesday afternoon -- fun fun. Obviously, we were disappointed as we had been pretty hopefully due to *perfect* timing this cycle(thanks for the hugs and kind words, they really did help!)-- but oh well, "on to the next" as they say...
...And we are feeling pretty hopefully about 'the next' - We met with Dr. G today and discussed moving forward with IVF. Medically, its probably overkill, but given how much we pay each month for a monitored cycle, it makes sense financially. He is coordinating with FFF and we have an appointment with them in 2 weeks. I have had most of my blood work done through them, and they are super convenient and friendly. We are pretty certain it wont be a turn-key operation, so in the meantime have decided to do a few good-old-fashioned tries, when convenient, over the next few cycles. It doesn't make sense to pay for the monitoring, etc, for IUIs since we have IVF on the horizon, so we are going to go back to what we love (peeing on stix) and turkey-baster insems for at least May and July and then hopefully can do IVF in Aug or September. We tend to spend a lot of time out in SF over the summer anyways so we figured it was a win-win.
In other 'from-left-field' news, we decided also to start looking into domestic adoption. As I mentioned early on, we are both really committed to adoption for what we thought would be our second child, but decided to meet with a local agency that was recommended to us, just to get the background. I think all of these irons in the fire makes us feel 'proactive' and reduces our anxiety about having to wait several months (most likely) to get IVF started. Plus its good to get a sense of the costs, etc early on.
Anyways, thats the news for now - Happy Earth Day!

Sorry AF showed up. :( You two are definitely being proactive. I don't blame you for moving onto IVF. The percentage is really pretty high for the money. Plus, you never know, one of those unofficial tries could hit in the meantime. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear about AF, too. But you sound hopeful about the next coming months, and hope is always a good thing. I'm on CD2 as well, so here's to some extra well wishes and hope for us both this time around.
ReplyDeleteAw, sorry about the cycle ending. But wow on your irons in the fire - way to be proactive. We ended up spending as much on 7 months of IUIs as we would have on one cycle of IVF, so I totally get the decision. Good luck with the adoption research and with turkey basters in the meantime!
ReplyDeleteYay for irons in the fire! I don't think you need to keep worrying about IVF being "overkill." It's incredible how fast the "small stuff" adds up, and frankly, I've wanted to shake a couple of my friends who did over a year of IUIs because they "didn't need" IVF. They spent more money on IUIs than they would have on IVF and spent a year and a half being stressed out and frustrated before they finally bit the bullet and did IVF (and it worked). In the meantime, one of those low-key cycles might easily be the ticket!
