Im sure everyone has this experience -- you are at home doing something pretty basic, like putting on a coat or reading a book, and all of a sudden your toddler responds in a totally socially-appropriate way and you are *shocked* -- must'a picked it up at daycare....
This happens to us pretty often. A couple of months ago, as soon as we would say the word "park," Izzy would run to get her shoes from the area by the door where we leave our shoes. Ive seen the kids at daycare do this so it was fun, but not too surprising. Sometimes it acutally really useful (shoes, coats, etc) and sometimes just little idiosyncrasies of the daycare providers or her grandparents. In the past week, a new one popped up. Every time Izzy sees a baby - doesnt matter if its in a book or on the street, she will stop to hug and "kiss" them (book or actual baby). Its hilarious. There are two babies at daycare, and apparently she is obsessed with them. She nearly smothered our friend's newborn, as she eagerly jumped INTO the carseat carrier as soon as they arrived. Then last night, we were reading a book about babies. Not surprisingly, there was a picture of a baby on EVERY page, and she had to hug and kiss EVERY page. When I looked at her inquisitively, she responded by saying be-be. Duh, mom!
At the end of the book, I picked her up and said "you're MY baby" and gave her a big hug/kiss. She gave me the most confused and somewhat disgusted look. Clearly she is NOT a be-be anymore...and so it begins....

So cute. My kids kiss the pictures of babies in books sometimes too. But they ALWAYS kiss pictures of dogs. Fortunately they haven't tried kissing any strange dogs we see when we're out for a walk!
ReplyDeleteVery sweet. And good to know how she feels about babies... that'll come in handy soon!
