Second Tri

Every book/website seems to count the start of the second trimester differently. Ive even found one (my favorite!) that says at 12.1 you enter the glorious 2nd tri, but any way you look at it. we.are.here.

The day of a vomiting last week was just that. W continues to feel stretching, nausea and some cramping and certainly tons of gas but no more throwing-up. Perfect timing as the semester starts to hit, she is back to working long days (with no time to nap!) and we leave for Greece tomorrow. Yup, thats right. It feels ridiculous since we've already done so much travel this summer but W's college roommate (who is Greek) is getting married over Labor Day. The wedding was a bit shot-gun-ish (no impending baby,  just older relatives and immigration issues) - the save the date came out Memorial Day, wedding invite less than a month after that, and now, here we are 3 months later getting on the plane. Most of her close-nit room-group is going and sans family/spouse so we decided to call this our baby-moon and leave Iz with my parents (who flew in for the occasion) and W's parents who live less than a mile a way. 4 on 1 seems like good odds but its still hard to imagine leaving her for 5 nights!!!

Speaking of baby-moon, we finally had the NT on Monday. All looks good (phew!), and we even got a wave (showing off five tiny little fingers). He was bopping up and down and did a few gulps for the camera. The photo is crap quality but...there is something that definitely resembles a baby in there! We have taken to calling him The Bug, as a couple of weeks ago when W was sick and Izzy was "tending to her" she likened her malaise to when you have a "tummy bug" -- Izzy promptly insisted on seeing "the bug" and it stuck. We still haven't told Iz about the arrival that may rock her world as we haven't told our colleagues yet and Iz is not known for closed lips. Lately she has been very into a book where a little brother features prominently, so who knows, she might already know. Dogs and kids, man, they have a second sense!

  2. They totally know. We broke down and told the Bean in part because he was following up pointed questions about my belly with bringing me my pregnancy books and demanding I read them to him.

  3. So glad you'll be able to enjoy greece (and not just a tour of toilets, either)! Funny that she might know. Do you have a timeline for telling her?

  4. Wow, the Greece trip sounds fabulous! I've been very anxious every time that we left Tad for that long, but each time he's ended up having a fabulous time with his grandparents.
And yes, it's amazing how quickly kids pick up on these things! I had thought we were being discreet around Tad, but ridiculously early in my pregnancy he said something about "if you have a baby in your belly..."
