We talked to KD last night and timing is not ideal for the November cycle...Instead of being really disappointed, I was somewhat relieved to have the excuse. The more we think about it, the more we both feel like we might need a few months off. We will definitely do the clomid cycle in Oct (thats #6, for what its worth) and then will probably take Nov & Dec off to start our *shiny* new IVF cycle in January.
We are both feeling pretty good about this approach, for many reasons. In addition to all that is on the horizon for us this Fall that I have already mentioned, W's dad was just diagnosed with cancer a few weeks ago and its all just finally hitting us what that means for us, for Izzy (who spends 2 days/week with her Zadie) and for our family. Trying to cram in two more expensive cycles when we don't have strong evidence that they will do anything seems like more of a distraction than we can afford, both in terms of emotional energy and, to a lesser extent, money. He is strong, healthy and has a very good prognosis but it will still include the removal of his kidney (in 2 weeks) and likely two innovative, yet intense round of treatment in November and December. That, the holidays and the fact that if we were lucky enough to _get_ pregnant in Nov/Dec, next September is not a great time for W to be giving birth, means that we are out, for at least two months. And so we talked-regrouped-and re-planened. Im most sad to loose our cycle buddies, BUT I hope this means you WONT wait for us!
I have to say, I feel like a HUGE weight had lifted off my shoulders. We can go ahead and plan our holiday travel, our Spring trip to Mexico with my parents and our summer of CA and visiting relatives in Sweden in August without the possibility of a pregnancy in the too-near future. We are still "on the books" for IVF in January assuming nothing crazy happens, and who knows, our little clomid cycle in October may do the trick (or TREAT).
Happy Fall -- its in the air in Cambridge this morning!

i'm so sorry about w's dad's diagnosis. sounds like been having some major planning talks around timing and i'm glad you've found a sense of relief (and can go on and plan some vacations!).
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that you have a plan that feels good. With so many things about this process that we can't control, it makes sense to set up the ones that we can in a way that works for us.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed that October will be your month!
Sorry I've been a bad commenter. I think your plan sounds great and hopefully you won't need to get to IVF.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about W dad's cancer. My mom had cancer over 13 years ago and even with a good prognosis it's still stressful and scary.
