So as is typical with all things TTC we are prone to FREAK OUT when it is not needed. I guess you can never be certain that "everything is ok" but the tests from yesterday seemed to indicate that there is really not too much to worry about (ha, as if thats every possible!). The fancy-downtown-cardio-specialist was probably the nicest, most competent person in the world (there is a reason she is at the best prenatal-cario hospital in the country, i guess) and the ultrasound tech was also pretty awesome! We had a LONG appointment, in part because our stubborn little one (Maybe she is a Cap as well, Schroe) was practicing all manner of twirls and kicks which makes getting shots of a VERY SMALL part of the heart particularly tricky. She also decided that this was the time to be modest and kept putting one arm across her chest (again, forcing the tech to scan through her spine or arm bones to see the heart). Oy. We have a feisty one on our hands!
Anyways, I can bore you with the medical jargon but basically the arrhythmia is in the "good" part of the heart, its very infrequent and structurally the heart is a-ok which means that we should be able to have a normal delivery at our birth center but they will want to do some additional monitoring over the next few weeks (as if we weren't at the midwives often enough) and will want to have a ped at the birth do a EKG. Worst case scenario the arrhythmia gets worse and they need to "shock" her heart back to a normal rhythm after birth but even that seemed to be pretty "normal" for babies..or so they say....
So we are cautiously moving on and focusing on other exciting things -- a week in NY for the holidays and the reality that our little one (now tipping the charts at nearly 6lbs and measuring 3-4 weeks ahead of schedule) might even arrive early! We have always doubted the due date but after having 3 different techs confirm that she was big and low, we are hoping for a mid-January birth (fingers crossed!).
Happy holidays to all!
