This is all starting to feel excitingly real. We've told a good portion of our friends and have let ourselves start to get excited. We will both "officially" tell our work in the next week or so and have our 18 week anatomy scan next Tuesday. Over the last few days, we have begun the art of "nesting" in terms of cleaning out some space, discussing room configurations and...names.
With Iz, it was an easy choice. She became the 20-something in a long line of women in my family to carry the historic torch. We had some choice in the nickname, but there were very few not already claimed, so that also helped us narrow.
For boys, there is no such tradition, so the field is wide open -- almost too open.We had come up with a really offbeat name for a boy when we were pregnant with iz. We still like it, but aren't sure it "fits" with the rest of our family names. Then there is also the idea that the rest of us are all named for someone in our family. Wont little bug feel left out of this history lesson/linage? In W's family the loose tradition would be to use the first letter of someone special, in this case it would be W's grandfather, so that gives us J. Jacob, with a nickname of Jake (which I dont love) or Coby (which W doesnt love) is the ONLY J name we have yet to agree on. There are so many great J names, but we just cant put our fingers on them, so, if you have J name to offer...send 'em my way!

Oooh, well, we already used the best one. Kidding! But we used Ju.dah and loved it. Thought we might call him Jude, though haven't done that much - it's a nice one. We know a Jonah, a Jack, a Jackson, a James - you're right, so many possibilities. If you haven't read this blog, I HIGHLY recommend it. You can use the search function to see what she's said or suggested about names you both like. http://www.swistle.com/babynames/
ReplyDeleteAnatomy scan, 18 weeks, wow. Moving right along!
I like Jenson. Or Jasper.
ReplyDeleteI won't tell you what other J boy name I like as I'm saving that one up in case my time ever comes!!
So exciting that things are moving along!
ReplyDeleteI second the nomination of Jasper--it was definitely one that we considered using for #2 if we had another boy. I also like James/Jamie.
