We've also recently tried the I-LOVE-YOU massage, giving her baths (which she loves!) and holding her/putting pressure on her belly. Each seems to work with varying degrees of success but they have their pit falls -- massaging often makes her spew tons of milk (not surprising as I am massaging it out of her stomach) -- baths can be a bit cumbersome at 3am, etc...
Next on the list to try is baby acupuncture and maybe a chiropractor...but in the meantime, any advice? Is this normal and are we just being overly sensitive?
In the good news category - Izzy hit 6 weeks yesterday and is already so much more fun! She makes eye contact, tracks us when we talk to her from across the room and has hinted at a smile. And of course, most lovely is that she regularly (as in 3-ish times a week) goes 6-7 hours between feedings at night! Now we just need to figure out how to get that stretch to move from 9pm to 3/4am to 11pm to 5/6am....
And a few recent snaps from our recent trip to DC - she was perfection on the plane! and around the house...
Izzy meets Lincoln...

"playing" with Thali and enjoying some tummy-time

and of course, perfecting The Nap...at home and on the go!

Wow I did not know you were going back to work so soon! I hope the transition goes smoothly.
ReplyDeleteAs for gas, oh yes, the first six weeks were hell. Then the next four were slightly less hellish. Now (12 weeks) we're in a pretty mild hell, but The Boy still gets super crankified when he's gassy, usually at about 5 a.m. for some reason. We used simethicone and gripe water to no noticeable effect. Our pediatrician said it was simply a matter of his digestive system maturing and that the only real cure would be time, which has proven to be true. One thing that works for him: We "bend" him-- fold his feet up to his head (or in that direction) like we are making a baby taco shell. If there is any gas he is struggling with, that usually gets it right out.
Giving our boy mylecon after every meal was our saving grace. The gas situation got way better at around the 6 month mark.
ReplyDeleteadding...I'm sorry the mylecon/gripe water stopped working for you all. I wonder if there are any other dietary triggers that are exacerbating the problem? And are you sure it's only gas and not reflux?
ReplyDeleteWe also had the gas from hell. Still have bouts of it from time to time. As Schroe noted above, it really has a lot to do with maturity. At 3 months, Quinn is much better now (Big improvements happening by 2 months). To deal, we used the gas drops with every feeding (Gripe water on occasion), burping every ounce of feeding (less air = less gas), sitting her more upright while feeding and bicycling her legs.
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering about the reflux issue also. Does Izzy have a lot of spit up?
