Transistion...

We get back in town on Tuesday night and on Wednesday morning Izzy starts Day Care (yes, that warranted caps). She will be going 2 days / week...which seems like nothing, but it is still a lot of transitions for all of us. A lot of people who live around us favor a nanny-share. We considered it, but since its only for 2 days and she is already 5 months, we wanted something that would offer her more stimulation. If she were really young and needed constant 1-on-1 or if it was full time, I think we would have gone with a nanny share or even a family day care, but we like the idea of her going to "school" -- where they have tons of activities and will interact with kids of all ages. Even though we are happy with our decision and found "a center" daycare that we really like, its still a bit overwhelming.

The daycare director told us that we could stick around for a bit after we drop her off, or even come by mid-day for a check-in or feeding (its really near my office). Its not like we haven't left her for a day before - with W's parents, with a friend of ours and then for several hours here and there with other friends - AND its certainly not that they don't know what they are doing (in fact, we have heard from people that it was finally daycare that taught their kids how to nap/rollover/sit up, etc...), but it still feels like a huge transition.

  1. Sounds like a big transition, yes.... But I think that nanny care has been a great thing for the boy. His nanny (share) brings him an energy and undivided attention that we rarely have. And the other little boy, who is six months older, has (I am convinced) given the boy a whole new level of ambition and a model on which to base his own goals. He wants to do everything the other boy can do, and NOW. So we have a baby who is crawling and cruising at six months...It certainly makes him happy and keeps us on our toes! I bet Izzy will love it-- and you will too!
